Boomerang garden

Boomerang Community Centre Garden project Summary by Julie Campbell, Illustrator.

Plants and landscapes are one of my very favorite things to draw, so when I saw the opportunity to apply for a project drawing images of the Boomerang Community Centre Garden development I leapt at the chance!

The RSPB were working in partnership to develop a garden area at the Centre, planting native species to create a wonderful sensory garden and attract birds and pollinators, and were looking for someone to create a current and future illustrated vision of the site.

My first task was to carry out a site visit to take pictures and measurements, and to have a project meeting with the RSPBs Lindsey Gibb. There I saw firsthand what a wonderful welcoming, inclusive place the community centre is, and well used by the local residents.

With Lindsey’s comprehensive planting plan and guidance, I researched the species selected, and put together two illustrations: what the site would look like not long after planting, and then another illustration portraying what the garden could look like in 5 to 10 years. I also used the opportunity to bring in some wildlife images to show how the site could be a home for local wildlife.

A wonderful project to be part of, and I look forward to visiting the garden in the future as all the plants grow.
