Artist Statement
The places we inhabit have a profound influence on how we experience the world, and my work is deeply inspired by both natural and built environments. The sea has long been a source of fascination and connection for me, a relationship that deepened when I began sea swimming at Portobello in Edinburgh. What started as a New Year’s Day Loony Dook soon became a year-round regular ritual.
Swimming offers a way to reconnect with the present moment and the landscape around me. It has been a constant through early motherhood and intense personal loss, shaping both my experience of the world and my creative practice. Through photography, I explore the shifting perspectives that emerge through immersion in the water, seeking to blur the boundary between ourselves and the landscape.
Alongside photography, I experiment with cyanotypes and monoprints, embracing processes that engage directly with the natural world and reflect my ongoing interest in place and belonging.
