Artist Statement
I am interested in the shapes of creatures and plants, and the way they function. The reality of the world around us is the best base for imagination. Because of that, I am frequently drawing various potato shaped beasts of different species. I prefer bright, saturated water colours and ink, though I am branching out into the abstract with defunct electrical components. These may seem like contrasting approaches, but they both come from an awe of the natural world, and a critique of the technology that disrupts it.
Artist Bio
I am a mixed media visual artist with a focus on natural forms and bright colours. Subjects tend to be plants and animals, but can include landscapes and people as well.
My academic background in environmental science allows me to view these subjects as they relate to each other, and how they function as an ecosystem. I will use technical imagery as an inspiration for creative visuals, particularly false colour composites, or topographical maps. I appreciate the connection between art and science as different modes of observation, and value the power of creation as an educational tool. As such, I offer creative workshops featuring a range of natural sciences concepts in physical geography and biogeography as a source of inspiration for speculative fiction- new creatures, new lands, new ecosystems.
