Artist Statement

My art practice always begins by drawing from close observation of the natural world around me.  I am often inspired by the cyclical processes of my garden and local landscape of Fife. I approach the drawing process as a way to slow down and become mindful and more attuned to surroundings and to the natural forms that inhabit it.

I enjoy the challenge of working with different techniques and mediums to find new ways to interpret my subject matter and to constantly learn and evolve as an artist. Currently I am experimenting with locally sourcing natural pigments although this process is still at its very early stages.

This past year I have been experimenting further with painting through the TURPs correspondence course. Paintings have depicted natural forms and spaces from places close to my home often evolving past representation to inhabit a feeling, a sense of place, and increasing ambiguity.
