Katie Kerr

Artist Statement

My work is inspired by the natural world. Through research and initial drawings, I find patterns and structures from which to develop textile designs. I like to use sustainable materials such as hemp fabric and natural dyes. Using these products, at the end of their life they will decay leaving no damage to our planet. I hope to highlight the beauty and importance in things which are often overlooked, such as the urban wildflowers which mysteriously arrive springing to life through the smallest cracks in the paving, on walls, and buildings, but sustain an ecosystem of insects, and small mammals.
