Artist Statement
I delight in noticing new features in familiar spaces and I love to share this joy through my work, creating subtle visual jokes and tiny details as a reward for those who pay attention. When I am not drawing you might find me running round a cemetery chasing rabbits, walking with my dog, or talking to the plants in my garden (they are sick of my chat).
Artist Bio
Laura Darling is an illustrator based in Dundee.
Laura’s practice is guided by observation, and she uses drawing to make sense of the world, distilling complex information into characterful visual narratives. From the Jacobite uprisings and the Black Death to skateboarding puffins and runaway Scottie dogs, Laura’s playful illustrations tell stories that engage, educate and amuse people of all ages.
Working with clients including Perth Museum, Glasgow Children’s Hospital and V&A Dundee, Laura’s illustrations appear as pocket-sized activity trails and enormous murals, a graphic novel and a children’s picture book, a printed banner, and as animations in a multi-media installation.
Laura’s debut children’s picture book The Great Highland Games Chase, written by Kate Abernethy, was longlisted for the Klaus Flugge Award.
