Artist Statement
I am a weaver and fibre artist, working primarily on a floor loom. My work takes inspiration from colour and texture, and the patterns visible in the natural world. My previous work as an ecologist and entomologist exposed me to some of the most beautiful patterns in nature–many too small for the eye to see!
In addition to the feel and look of weaving, I enjoy playing with the rhythm and pattern inherent to weaving –as a former drummer I enjoy the sounds that emerge as I treadle or throw the shuttle.
My weaving is designed with sustainability and longevity in mind–I make pieces that should last a long time and be a joy to wear or use. I aim for my work to cause minimal environmental damage during production, or at the end of its lifespan.
